CLICO Policyholders in Trinidad & Tobago Granted Leave for Judicial Review

22 April 2012

In a judgment handed down on 19 April 2012, the High Court in Trinidad and Tobago granted leave to the United Clico Policyholders, represented by Peter Knox QC and Robert Strang, to apply for judicial review of the Government’s plan for bailing out CLICO, the collapsed insurance giant.

Peter and Robert travelled to Trinidad for a two day leave hearing in February, and will return for the judicial review in November 2012. The United Clico Policyholders, who number several hundred, allege that the Government’s current plan is illegal and that it is resiling from its previous promises to them, in breach of their legitimate expectations.
